WELCOME
TO WESTERN MINNESOTA STEAM THRESHERS REUNION, INC. ROLLAG, MINNESOTA Every Labor Day Weekend Friday through Monday As you
enter our Main Westgate Entrance, you will cross the railroad track of
steam locomotive, Engine #353, which has just loaded up another 500 passengers
to depart on a 1.2 mile ride around the perimeter of our show grounds.
Take a short walk to the north of the exhibit grounds and you will find
a fully operational Model 21 steam powered 3/4 yard shovel demonstrating
moving gravel. Along the way, you will find the PA Bldg which houses the
massive 600 HP Snow engine and the Worthington engine--both demonstrating
daily. Beyond the shovel, watch our "Lily" on the water, push
the logs into the hot pond where the Jammer, powered by the Donkey engine,
picks the logs from the hot pond and sets them on a carriage to be taken
to the Briden-Roen Sawmill which is a steam operated sawmill. To the southwest
of the grounds, you will see the 17 acres called the Expo Area where you
will find hundreds of tractors on display and also the threshing demonstration
both with gas and steam engines. There is also an Expo Building where
there is a variety of antique memorabilia on display. As you leave the
Expo area, headed east up the parade route, you may stop and observe the
rare Prony Brake Demonstration which can test the maximum horsepower of
an engine. Nearby, you will find a vintage Parker merry-go-round powered
by steam. Enjoy your free ride on one of the brightly colored wooden horses
listening to the band organ playing authentic music! Then begin your walk
through the Gas Engine area, see the DeLaVergne Diesel engine with its
9 foot flywheel, the largest collection in the world of Otto Engines,
the Sno engine and hot air engines, numerous rare engines--all operational.
Stop in the Model Engine building to view the skillfully built & running
scale engines. Tucked back in the trees, you will find the largest collection
of miniature models all demonstrating in Miniature land. You will find
the Log Cabin Museum, the Freeport Building where there are more steam
engines supplying power for our flour mill. Close by is the Blacksmith
Shop, where the blacksmiths make horseshoes, rings, and hooks. The Memorial
Wall is set proudly by the Log Cabin Museum, paying deserving tribute
to all our WMSTR forefathers. Behind the Memorial Wall, is the scale model
Ortner Railroad providing rides to young and old. Stop and visit Flossie's
Laundry and Dey Power House. Near the Ortner RR you will find many restored
and running stationary steam engines ranging to 600 hp with flywheels
up to 16 ft diameter. The coal fired Montana Boiler supplies steam for
several of these engines and a steam forging hammer that stamps out souvenir
plates during the show. Nestled in the woods below the forging hammer
sits the Rushfeldt Pioneer Farmstead and take in the workings of the Water
Wheel located near the farmstead. As you wander back out of the shade
of the hundreds of trees, you may enjoy old fashioned side by side ice
cream cones at several stands throughout the grounds, or a delicious Thresherman
meal served at one of the many church food stands, or maybe just a hotdog
and soda. The East side of our show grounds presents Main Street along
which you will visit the Print Shop, the Downer Church, Bjorndahl log
house, the Main Street House, The Schoolhouse, Main street Mercantile,
General Store, Prairie Rose Boutique, the Pioneer Ladies Demonstration
Building, the Tydol Gas Station, all buildings bustle with activities
and demonstrations. WESTERN MINNESOTA
